How To Build a Badass Outfit

This project started with the prompt to complete a how-to guide on something I knew very well. For me, this meant building a badass outfit that makes you look good while feeling confident.

The first part of this project was to create a guided video run-through going through the process of how I get ready.

Following that I began the brainstorming process. I started with research on how the fashion industry is portrayed and curated a style guide. Then I built two possible poster ideas as a way to showcase the design, and then I created cards. These were all early ideations which soon changed.

Soon after I came up with the idea of curating custom car tags which would be created with Neobrutalism in mind when it came to the tags’ design style. That meant large, bold, and legible.

To the naked eye, the tags would have been just that, care tags. Yet, when reading they show a step-by-step guide on how to create an outfit. I chose to have them printed in silk so that they could mimic the tag texture. Following that I packaged them within a hoodie by stitching them into the side seam. I then sketched out a design for the back using Procreate, and Adobe Illustrator, then printed it onto a transferable iron-on sheet so I could put the design on the back.
