Self-Published Magazine:

SIXº

Sixº (Six Degrees), is a self-published magazine collection that prioritizes personal narrative, individuality, and the connection of people who are viewed as unalike, yet are uniquely similar. The overall concept stems from one person, as the connectivity points to five other individuals with definitive lives and backgrounds. Think Six Degrees, to Kevin Bacon. Each issue will showcase a different six; their journey through their personal lives, and how they live today. This includes their passions, dreams, and hardships, that they each have faced. All the while, providing advice on how to navigate the world we live in now– Six Degrees was created in order to make the world live in, feel a little bit smaller; where no one is completely alone. Here, a six is always nearby. They’re connected, even when people may not feel or see it that way. Six Degrees was made to reach all people, specifically, if they are in search of authenticity, creativity, and a space to explore humanity.

The Creative Issue was completely curated by me. I wrote all body copy and gathered the six for individual interviews. Had curated photoshoots where I took most of the photos showcased. I then built the layout in Adobe Indesign utilizing a two-column grid with left justified type to create a very clean look. I also chose the typefaces Futura for headers and subheads, then for body copy, I chose Baskerville. I felt they looked very cohesive and bold together, which was what I wanted for the piece. I also made a custom logo after much trial and error. To tie the magazine together I kept to a cream and black as well as a handplaced and photoshopped string which is tried throughout the pages. I also created custom internal pages which were hand-drawn and then brought into illustrator to create a pattern that showcased communication. The magazine underwent many variations before landing on the personalized and unique style.

Lastly, I created final leave-behinds and an app mockup in Adobe XD. The leave-behinds consisted of physical rope handcuffs for people to jokingly make their own Six connections. The handcuffs have 6 wrist cuffs connected to a single point. The second one was a mockup of a matchstick box with a white cowboy boot on it which is an easter egg for those that read the magazine.
